Sanding and sealing in Todmorden
The latest floor that has been restored in Todmorden has been a late 70’s pine staircase (by the looks of the wood itself) and two landing areas plus a small hallway. There was a lot of damage to the wood itself from wear and tear from a previous owner that did not have them refinished and just left them to get damaged and dirty. If you keep up the maintenance of the floor once it is redone you should never get to this stage. A recoat of the finish used every 5-10 years or so should keep the condition of this floor as good as new. The finish used was Treatex hardwax oil with hardener which needs at least 10 hours drying time and the house environment needs to be spotlessly clean as you have to let air in to dry the finish properly.
Sanding, Staining and Sealing in Hebden Bridge
The brief on this job was to sand and seal a veneered oak floor with the look of a natural oil product. To do this successfully you will have to use the hardest wearing lacquer on the market with a white pigmented primer. The newest product to achieve this look is Bona Natural primer combined with Bona Traffic HD Raw lacquer. The Primer is quite a tricky product to put down evenly but it gives a better distribution than something like Junckers Prelak white which is even trickier to put down.
If you want a near 100% white washed look to the floor then Bona Nordic seal could be an even better option.
It is a classy look to go with the natural stone lime mortared walls and soon to be re-installed pool table.
Sanding, Staining and Sealing in Todmorden
The brief on this job was to bring this 1925 floor back to life and use a bespoke stain colour chosen by the customer. The colour chosen was made from a sample of the floor which had just been installed in her kitchen area. You can have any colour you want mixed up but there is a three week turnaround from the manafacturer. If you want a floor revamping in 2024 please get in touch asap to claim a remaining slot.
Sanding and sealing in Mytholmroyd
This customer wanted to resand the engineered floor in her front room rather than rip it up. A new engineered floor with this quality wood retails for around £1000 not including labour. You can save a lot of money by sanding and sealing what you already have. This Oak floor had a 3mm wear level so this enabled her to get a completely new floor with minimal sanding and sealing. The floor was refinished in commercial grade lacquer for the best finish.
Sanding and sealing a staircase in Hebden Bridge
The brief on this job was to renew the Victorian era staircase after the customer had removed various layers of old paint finish to show what you can see below. The Victorians and more recent home owners tended to paint layer upon layer on stairs for some reason. For this reason they require a lot of sanding and attention to detail to get them right. You can see where the runner used to be on the tread of each stair so in effect it is a link to the past which is quite cool. It is definitely worth the time and effort putting into them rather than covering them up with another layer of paint or carpet. It is 150 year old wood after all so its nice to show it off.
Sanding and sealing in Sowerby Bridge
Latest job in Sowerby Bridge where an original floor was uncovered after removal of vinyl flooring from a previous home owner. Most floors can be rescued if damaged so best not to cover them up and the natural wood looks loads better than most vinyl and karndean coverings anyway. Underneath the skirting was insultated and filled so there will be no drafts getting through this floor from the outside. Staining of the floor is also possible after the sanding stage to whichever colour you would like. Shellac barrier seal was used here to stop any contamination from showing up once the top coats of lacquer were applied.

The results can be pleasantly surprising once you sand off old paint from a floor. Painted floors go out of fashion but natural wood floors are timeless.
Floor sanding and repairs in Hebden Bridge
The butcher of Hebden is back! I have been uncovering more handy work from this prolific floor murderer. Cutting V shapes in planks to get at radiator pipes! Whatever next?!
If you are replacing your old wooden floor do not throw away the planks please give me a call first and i will save them for other customers for repairs such as this. If you have a lacquered wooden floor please double up fabric stoppers on every chair leg to avoid deep marks on your floor.
I am now also doing general handyman repairs, get in touch is you need any small jobs doing around the house that I can help with.
Floor Sanding in Skipton
I was asked to restore a floor over in Skipton way in November last year just as the world cup was starting. My first day on the job was when England actually played a good game against Iran! The floor was filled with pine slivers in the larger gaps and filled and then coated with Junckers Strong Matt.
Floor sanding in Hebden Bridge
Back to Hebden to restore a floor from the Georgian era in an old detached house there. The typical black painted border with nasty lead in it needed sanding off. Joist repairs, spot adhesive and sawdust filling and finished with Junckers Strong Lacquer and primer. Another excellent view out of the bedroom window of the canal and treeline. The after picture is taken during the last coat of lacquer, to get a shiny finish silk matt should be used.
Floor sanding in Todmorden
Another 1920’s terrace in need of renovation, there was a lot of hidden damage to the floor, loose boards from an errant plumber and also it needed new reclaimed wood cutting in and the repair of a few joists. Sympathetic staining to the newer board also made the plank blend in with the antque floor using a stain from a special collection.
Floor sanding in Todmorden
The latest job i have completed is a 1920’s front room in Todmorden. The front room was lined with lead paint on the border. The painted border from its original owner has left a difference in shade on the floorboards due to it blocking UV light from the sun. The loose floorboards were repaired and then prominent cracks were filled with an adhesive and sawdust mix. The floor was finished with Treatex hardwax oil, a very easy to apply product but it needs lots of white spirit to clean up the brush and roller.
Floor sanding in Halifax
The latest job i have undertaken is the renovation of a 240 year old farmhouse floor which was sanded and coated with inappropriate beeswax. You can see this as the wax has worn off on heavy traffic areas in the first picture. You can use wax on floors but only for very low traffic areas such as studys. I resanded and recoated the floor with a hard wearing commerical grade lacquer so the homeowner wont have this problem again.
Floor sanding in todmorden
I was asked to restore an original Victorian era parquet floor in Todmorden. The floor was laid by the Fielden family who were mill owners in the town. Mill owner John Fielden helped his workers gain a minimum wage when in those days they were just treated as slaves by more unscrupulous owners. I have never seen a chessboard effect parquet before and it must have cost a lot in those days to purchase and install.
Todfellows Hall Todmorden
The floor was looking very tired before the sanding and sealing but now they have a sparkling new floor to host their events with.
If you need a 56 square meter place for hosting events or parties in Todmorden look no further . Click here to go to their website.
Other news
I am pausing machine hire for now until February 2022 due to increased demand for sanding work but if you want me to do the sanding and finishing for you please get in touch as normal.
If you need some floorboard repairs doing please note this is one of my specialities making sure that they are not broken by careless removal. I see a lot of damage to old floors when there is no need if they are removed carefully. You need to be very careful with each plank as the wood used in the floors around here cannot be easily replaced as replacement wood is not available and cant be found in reclamation yards unless you are very lucky.
Just letting tradesman cut into floors without thinking is one of the biggest costs for people to rectify when I turn up on floor sanding jobs. Not letting that happen could save your floor and yourself a lot of money.
My machines are 98% dust free meaning minimal dust in your house during a job. If I can help you in anyway do give me a ring on 01706 960 420. Best to leave a voicemail on the phone rather than replying on website pages as it sometimes doesn’t come through.
All the bestÂ

Hebden Floor Sanding
Floor sanding in Hebden Bridge
The owner of this house was having a full home renovation which included changing the attic room into the master bedroom. Reclaimed wood from elsewhere in the house was installed on the joists, pine slivers were used to fill the bigger gaps and then the remaining gaps were filled with the best sawdust and resin compound for a perfect colour match. This job was a back breaker bending over sanding in the eaves as the roof was very shallow at the edges. The wood was primed with Junckers Prelak White to give a slight white washed effect to tone down the yellowness of the boards. I think the end result was worth it. Hopefully you think the same!

The owner of this terraced cottage wanted a completely different look to her attic living room with a solid timber beam in the roof space. What were the previous owners thinking!?
Wood Floor fitting, Floor sanding and varnishing in MytholmroydÂ
This customer needed our newly offered floor fitting service to source wood which matched her older reclaimed wood that was fitted in the rest of her house. Once the new floor was installed and leveled I began the sanding process to give a Scandinavian feel to the newly created room. The home owner now has a spectacular view and new floor/ dining room to enjoy at the same time. If you need a new or reclaimed floor fitted get in touch with us for an estimate. We moved the furniture for this elderly home owner too so she didn’t have to move out while works took place. I did have to work around the cat though! We try and make the process as painless as possible for all our customers.
Floor repair, Floor sanding and staining with paint and sealing in Todmorden area
This customer needed me to stick down 60% of the kitchen floor as they had become very loose from recent renovations. Dust and soil had gone under each block which had to be cleaned out. The owner of the house had gone to the trouble of sanding each parquet wood block with a hand sander over the last few months but they had hit a wall with how to proceed from there.

Spare Bedroom Floor Sanding – Floor sanding in Todmorden
Before
The floor in this room was very uneven and damaged near the doorway. First steps were to level the floor and bring it back to a flat workable surface. Appropriate age wood was sourced from a reclamation yard and cut to size including around pipes underneath the skirting board to the top left on the first picture. The homeowner decided not to change the newer planks in the centre of the room as they would be hidden under a bed anyway (Ideally I would want to match in correct size older wood where budget and time allows). This floor took five days to sand, repair and seal and I’m really happy with how it came out. The floor was sealed in Shellac and this really brought out the wood grain for a deeper colouring rather than bog standard primer. I do not rush or cut corners on any job and I do not charge for breaks or downtime. I find it best to work on an hourly basis (after an estimate has been given) so you do not get a rushed finish that will last for a lot longer than most sand and seal in one day companies.

Detatched House – Floor sanding in Todmorden
I did the full room redesign in this detatched house in Todmorden from choosing colours on the walls to match the Osmo Oil gloss floor. Osmo oil takes 8 hours to fully dry for each coat (2 coats required) so finishing took two days for the drying time.

Oak kitchen floor sanded and sealed with Treatex Oil + Hardener
This project took ten hours from start to finish. The home owner was on holiday and had work men in to complete decorating and other odd jobs. I’m sure they will have been happy with my work once they were back from their trip. The starting state was an awful yellowy varnish which had plenty of marks in it.
Church parquet floor sanding and sealing
The floor was in a really bad state when I first arrived at the job. 100 years of grime had to be sanded off before getting to the fresh wood underneath. It took four days to sand the 40 square meter space in the entrance hall of the church. I’m really happy with the outcome of this job, probably one of the best looking floors I have done so far. The quality of the blocks on the floor were great to work with.

Terraced House – Floor sanding in Hebden Bridge
This top bedroom was full of smoke and ash stained floorboards. Bitumen from previous carpet installations was everywhere as well as other assorted horrors. The home owner wanted to completely redo the colour and feel of the room. For a small room it took a fair amount of time to sort out the floor sanding due to these issues. If you want floor sanding in Hebden Bridge or any surrounding areas look no further.
Before
After sanding multiple times, staining and then finishing with Osmo oil I managed to make the floor look as good as new and the home owner was really happy with the finished result. This floor took 3 days from start to finish. I never rush my floors and only stop when I am personally happy with it. I want to make sure that I do as good a job as I would want on my own floor. The bitumen was really tricky to remove without damaging the wood it was stuck to.
